World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest

It's the Super Bowl of Swine. The College of Pig Knowledge. The Granddaddy of Grills. The Largest Pork Barbecue Cooking Contest on the Planet.

The sweetest smelling cloud hovers over Memphis—hickory, pork, tomato, mustard, vinegar, more pork ... Three stuffed days of smoked heaven where contestants eat, sleep, and live pig. All oink wildly, trying to win more than $61,050 in prizes.

Grillmasters and goodtimers will descend on Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis for serious competition that’s seriously fun. Even the grills dress up for this party—like fire trucks, airplanes, piggy banks, pot bellied stoves; you name it, it’s probably here.

More than 90,000 pork lovers from around the globe Australia, Russia, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Estonia, Canada, France, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and the United Kingdom gather together to testify about their special sauces, rubs, ribs, and whatnot in Pig-dom.

And, there’s the Main Stage, the site of world-class musical entertainment and the Ms. Piggie competition (grown men in snouts and tutus). You’ll see funny faces, famous faces, and might end up having your face on one of these special reports on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, Southern Living Network, PBS, A&E, TBS, Gourmet Magazine, Food & Wine, Martha Stewart Living TV, or one of many other media reports.

Great Southern Food Festival

Grits. Catfish. Fried okra. Pecan pie. Turnip greens. Cornbread. Fried green tomatoes. In the South, these aren't just foods … they're staples, symbols of the good life!

Now there's a big, two-day celebration honoring the food that's so great they named an entire region of the U.S. after it.

The Memphis in May Great Southern Food Festival combines great restaurants, sublime Southern music, unique Southern fine arts & crafts, and some of the South's most outstanding chefs and cooks with a 25-acre park in downtown Memphis and a savory view of the Mississippi River.

The Great Southern Food Festival also offers cooking contests and prizes, an interactive children's area, strolling musicians and Southern entertainers, a catfish and hushpuppy cooking contest, some of the South's best storytellers and musicians, a whole lot of food, and so much more yummy things to do.

Sunset Symphony

This grand finale of Memphis in May joins with our newest event, the Great Southern Food Festival, to provide the much-anticipated dessert at the end of the festival. Like the end of any great meal, it's sweetness that provides just the right finishing touch.

With its beautiful setting on the banks of the Mississippi and the wonderful music of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, this event is an all-time favorites. Family and friends gather to enjoy each other, the music, and the delicious food from vendors and picnic baskets in this ideal setting.

As a Memphis in May and Sunset Symphony Tradition, a spectacular fireworks display lights up the Mighty Mississippi. This incredible show illuminates the grand sounds of the symphony.
